Assemblage of Wealth and Beauty Icons

In creating this piece, I spent much time thinking about ideas of beauty and wealth, positive and negative, and researched cultural influences and societal pressures related with both. Wisdom from many countries, in the form of simple proverbs, warns of the dangers of too much emphasis on either and on the vain nature of both.  And yet neither Beauty nor Wealth is bad in and of itself. The Barbie doll is unique in that it was the first doll marketed for young girls to roll play situations other than that of traditional mother. Controversial when it first appeared in the marketplace, it continues to spark discussion over 50 years later.
